In my last blog, I spoke about the death of my dog Jacob. In that blog, I explained that after his death, I was not ready for spirit communication. It took me weeks to be open to his spirit. I needed the time to grieve the physical presence of my dog. Jacob respected my wishes. After a few weeks, I heard him barking in his favorite window, greeting me when I came home. His bark was again strong and exuberant, as it had been in the past.
The way you grieve every pet is different; in the past, I was eager to communicate when my other pets died. Right after my cat Tiki was euthanized, I came home from the veterinarian’s office, and there was Tiki’s spirit walking so proudly with his tail held high. It was at that moment that I remembered that his tail had not been held high in years. At twenty-one and sick, his tail hung low. Now I could see the healthy young cat that he once was. This helped me realize that I had done what was best for him.
After my last blog, so many clients shared their beautiful stories. I was so grateful that I would like to share a few of the stories.
My client, Anita, loves dogs, especially Beagles. Her Beagle, Lady, was about to turn fourteen. She became very sick and was not able to breathe on her own. She would have to spend the last weeks of her life in an oxygen tank. It was a hard decision, but Anita knew Lady would not be happy living a confined life, so she decided to euthanize her. As she was euthanized, Anita’s mom held Lady, and she reached up to Anita to give her one last kiss.
After this traumatic event, Anita had to rush home because she had a party planned for that evening. It was too late to cancel the party, so she decided to push through. As she prepared food, her eyes drifted to the other side of the room; to her surprise, Lady was standing by the table. Lady looked healthy and beautiful, and in a moment, she was gone. Anita felt at peace because she knew Lady had come to tell her she was good and that Anita had done the right thing.
The love of Joan’s life was her Thoroughbred horse Nicky. After an unsuccessful racing career at a young age, he came into Joan’s life. He lived happily on Joan’s farm until he grew old. His body started to decline, and Joan knew it was time to let him go. Moments after he was euthanized, Joan looked out into the field through her tears. To her surprise, Nicky sent a sign: two orbs of light suddenly appeared. She knew he was letting her know he had crossed over peacefully and reassuring her that she would be okay.
Each night Connie’s cat, Felix, would sleep at the bottom of her bed on a fluffy quilt. After Felix died, Connie noticed a dent in the quilt. At first she thought it was her imagination and just fluffed up the quilt and went to get ready for bed. When she came out of the bathroom, the quilt had the same dent in it, as if Felix was again sleeping in his spot. During a reading with me, I told Connie that Felix would visit her at night and sleep in his spot at the bottom of the bed. This helped Connie understand that Felix is still with her.
Doug had to euthanize his dog because of cancer; his heart was broken. He became very lonely, but decided that because of his health and age, he would not get another dog. One day, a stray cat showed up at his door. He let the cat in, and from that day on, the cat never left. The cat has so many of the same characteristics as his dog. In a reading, we came to understand that his dog returned as a cat because, given Doug’s limitations, a cat was now a better choice.
The signs are all around us; we just have to pay attention.
